What’s It Like to Build a Career with Morgan Corp?
Morgan Corp. is proud to invest in young professionals as they engineer a path forward for our industry. With opportunities in each of our regional offices, it’s never too early to learn more about what a career in the trades has to offer.
Mason, Field Engineer with Morgan Corp.’s Charlotte division, fell in love with the trades during a summer internship with a logging and timber company. Foregoing an intended future in finance, the Concord native chose to pursue a career that would allow him to work outdoors and be part of tangible progress in his community.
As he sought opportunities at local companies, learning more about erosion control and soil stabilization, he stood out as a leader to his crews. That same leadership potential caught the attention of Morgan Corp.’s Charlotte team and has served him well in his role on one of our commercial job sites.
“Working on a commercial project allows numerous trades to work alongside each other”, he states. His mornings are spent working in tandem with subcontractors, executing any change orders due to scheduling or weather, and ensuring a safe working environment for Morgan Corp.’s dirt work crews.
His supervisor on site, John, appreciates that Mason is, “always looking to improve on the little things to get the job accomplished, which means a lot. I’ve seen a lot of guys start out in this position, and they take their habits, good or bad, into their next role”.
His advice to future Field Engineers? “Know your contract. Everyone on a job site needs to know what their responsibilities are and how to anticipate any change orders that need to be made, especially when there are several subcontractors working together”.
Social Contract: Communicate Openly and Honestly “Our relationships with folks on site are really important. Being pragmatic and protecting our guys’ time and scope of work while still being respectful is something I spend a lot of my time doing”.
